“Fuck it,” Jill muttered. She stood up. “I wasted two painkillers and a quarter bottle of antiseptic on you. I put my ass on the line for you. And I don't get one damn bit of gratitude? I didn't know about the stupid shirt, you knew very well I was gonna rip it up to make bandages.”
Jill hopped back down off the roof and started to walk away. “Set your own goddam nose,” she called. She and Donny could do just fine on their own, thank you very much. Nobody should ever have to deal with this bullshit when they had to deal with the motherfucking zombie apocalypse at the same time.

Marie shook her head, touching Jill's arm. "You are not going in there alone." She stood and put one hand to her sword, "I may be short and young, but you seem to be cutting me out of the plan. If you were going to send Donovan in there, why not send me?" She looked over each face in her new group. Hopefully they could get along for enough time to allow this plan to work. "So, shall be we begin?"

Jill shook her head. “You're mistaken. Donny and I are out of here completely. I can't take it, I can't deal with all the fighting. It's total bullshit. I refuse to have to fight zombies and people at the same time.”
She shouldered her bag. “It's not your fault, Marie. Best of luck to you,” she said matter-of-factly.

"I wasn't serious you stupid bitch."
Gray stood and looked at the others, "Do whatever, I'm out. I'm tired of this shit. I'm tired of being ignored. I'm tired of everyone being a god damned idiot. Now if you'll excuse me I am going to go commit suicide."
Gray began to limp toward the ladder, as he passed Tanjuu he took his bat. He climbed off the roof and walked to the front door of the planetarium. He was moving sluggishly and from far away looked very much like a zombie. He was bleeding again, but he ignored it. He looked at the door and sighed before he swung it open and began to repeatedly smack his bat into the metal door frame, making a terrible clanging sound. Screeching and roars could be heard from inside the building and then the ground started to shake.
Hundreds of zombies filled the lobby beneath the skylight and began to rush for Gray. He leaned on the doorway and watched them, holding his bat in one hand and supporting himself with the other.

Ah bloody fucking hell!
She clambered down and ran after Jill, not noticing Grays suicidal behavior. "Jill wait. Can..." She almost looked back at the others. "Can I come with you?"
Like hell she was staying with a group of men. That was just asking for trouble. Major trouble.
"I can help, I promises I won't get in your way." She finally did shoot a glance back at the planetarium, her eyes falling on Gray standing in the door. So now they were going in. Marie turned back to Jill, "Please. I don't think I could stay with those men."

Marie reminded Jill a lot of the way that she was when she was 10. She was questioning, uncertain, trying desperately to hold it all together in a world that didn't make sense. Jill had been a virtual orphan. It was up to her to feed and clothe herself and get herself to school, and she was completely ignored until she did something wrong. The 25-year old Jill couldn't help but want to nurture and shelter the younger girl, in a way that her parents had never done for her. She couldn't in good conscience leave the girl behind.
Gray, on the other hand, reminded Jill of when she was a teenager, and had the same fuck-it-all, my-way-or-the-highway attitude. But the difference was that he was a full grown man, and his fuckups would get them all killed, whereas Jill's fuckups had ruined nobody's life but her own.
Just then Jill heard an angry growl. She turned to see Gray standing like a lone soldier in front of the oncoming horde. Oh my God, what has the idiot done now?
“Marie,” she said quietly, “Right now we have to help Gray hold the door. We'll figure out what to do later, but I can promise you I won't leave you alone.”
Then Jill drew her machete and sprinted toward Gray. She screamed at the top of her lungs, praying he would hear her, “Don't let them through that door! If they get through we all die!”

Well shit.
Marie turned mid step and unsheathed her saber, sprinting along behind jill. Putting on a burst of speed she passed the older woman and lunged past Gray's relaxing form. Her arm went ridged at her saber pierced the zombie's skull, sliding neatly onto an eye socket and ravaging the brain. She pulled back, moving past the fallen zombie and gray, whirling her sword in an intricate double butterfly stroke. The move was not meant to kill, only to push back the wave of un-dead.
Where was that guy with the quiet sub-machine gun?

The bloodied side of Gray's face turned toward Jill, the green eye standing out against the fading red. He was smiling.
"Right!"
He turned and brandished his bat the best he could in his cripled state. Bracing himself he prepared to swing at the wave as they approached him. His eyes narrowed and he gripped the handle before unleashing a swing so powerful he toppled a bit until it made contact.
One, two-- three zombie's heads were impacted by the swing and the creatures screeched out in agony before falling. Gray looked up, obviously pleased with his work before darting in and whacking off a few more. He turned and looked at the doorway getting another "great idea."
"Jill, Marie! Help me close the door, they can get them from the roof!"
He ran forward and pressed himself against the door, shutting it. The other door was still open but he would have to deal with that in a second-- he could feel the zombies' breath on his neck. He turned and hit another one, sending it flailing into the crowd. He darted around the frame to the outside world and watched as some of them flooded out.
Only it wasn't exactly a flood.
In his original plan the zombies had filed out one by one. This was two by two, close enough, right. He twirled his bat in his hand and sauntered forward like a gangster in West Side Story, the adrynalin pumping through him completely dulling the pain from his previous battle. He grinned and swung his bat into another skull, "Bing!"
Luke watched the scene unfold, comepletely taken aback by the boy's foolish actions. Luke had never fought a day in his life but thought for a second that maybe he could follow Mr. Gray's example. He ran to the ladder and motioned for those left on the roof to follow him. He slid down the rusty ladder, the crowbar in his waistband. Luke ran toward Gray and swung hard, taking out a zombie that had began to circle the boy, "Back to back?"
Gray nodded and they locked together, taking out zombies left and right, Gray's dying from impact and Luke's dying as their eyes were torn from their sockets by the lip of Luke's new weapon.

The horde still continued to pour through the door, everyone now up against them with machetes, baseball bats and crowbars. For reasons unsaid, this would serve as a brief hit of nostalgia for Tanjuu, but he shook off the feeling and made for the creatures with an arm wound back.
Slamming his gloved right fist into the face of the first, whipping his left shoe clean through the midsection of a second and back-knuckling a particular one through the side of the head into an oncoming group. A good description for this would be something along the lines of a no holds barred beatdown.
He kept the magnum concealed for the moment, only for if one of these infected creatures turned out to be a special one.

Up on the roof, Donny and Setsuna were left alone. Donny stripped off his jacket, and wound it around his arm. He gave the lowest panel of the skylight two good whacks, and the glass tinkled gently to the floor below.
“'Suna,” Donny whispered. “Can we use your silencer to take out the zombies that are still inside?”

Jill saw Gray and Luke link arms and immediately saw the wisdom of the idea. She snatched Marie's hand and whirled around, slashing with the machete as she went. She stabbed hard with the blade and ripped upwards, slicing a rotting torso neatly in two.
Thrust and parry, she told herself. Just like in the movies.

Setsuna nodded at Donovan, "Yeah." He stepped forward, shouldering the gun and opening up. The soft tich tich of the gun nearly drowned out by the hacking and slashing of the others.
(Sorry, I am having writer's block right now. )

That was when what looked like a battle in the survivors' favor turned to an onslaught. A Vermin burst through the door of the Planetarium and lunged toward Gray and Luke. It missed them by a few inches and turned, settling on a new target- Jill.
The Vermin leaped forward and landed on the woman's frame, reeling with excitement before snapping at her.
Gray hardly had time to notice. He was already getting tired-- possibly a side effect from the pills he had ingested. He had his hands full. Luke didn't want to leave him either, so he yelled for the others on the roof to help her and fast.

Marie whirled as she felt Jill move with some sort of impact. It was a zombie. No. It was a Vermin. She hit it with a flèche following the daring attack with a remise. She hopped the constant, accurate stabbing would drive it off Jill, though she could not strike as hard as she might like. The Vermin's head was much too close to Jill's neck to allow for full force attacks. Stabbing the woman through the corroded artery would not be a good idea.
"Gunman!" Marie shouted, not at anyone particularly, but at anyone who had a gun. Killing a special infected was much to hard with only a sword, they were too smart.

OOMPH! Jill hit the ground with a thud, and the air escaped her lungs with a giant whoosh. A gaping maw snapped shut several times above her face. She kicked desperately, trying to dislodge the Vermin. “You...fucker...” she wheezed, to no avail. In that instant she knew it was over. Instead of her own life flashing before her eyes, Jill saw Donovan's. She saw herself moaning in anguish, trying to push the tiny body out of her womb. She saw Ben's strong hands grasping her own, and then grasping the baby as it emerged and began to wail. She felt the panic over again when the doctor told her in a flat monotone that unless they found the money for surgery, the baby had only weeks to live. Jill remembered the hopelessness, the begging, the furious rage that took over her when her parents refused to help her baby. She remembered the businessmen who leered at her knowingly, the fear yet determination as she let them lead her up to their various hotel rooms to have their way with her in exchange for money. It was always hotels, they always had wives and children waiting for them at home. Well, Jill had a child of her own, and she was determined to find a way to pay for his medical treatment regardless of the damage it did to her pride. She saw Donny's first day of school, his naïve excitement as he ascended the bus steps on that day, and his acute disappointment as he descended those same stairs with tales of bullies and lost lunch money. She felt again the joy and pride when Donovan first struggled through his first chapter book. She remembered the bittersweet anguish she felt when she realized that her child was growing up to be just like her and would likely make the same mistakes she did. Jill wanted to cuddle that small body one more time, to brush her lips across that baby-smooth forehead once more, even if she wouldn't be permitted to watch him grow up. I'm too young to die, Jill thought. Donny's too young to be an orphan. She lashed out with her feet as she felt the monster sink its sharp teeth into her neck. [ ]
