Luke felt Gray jerk away from him and turned, following the boy. Gray rushed over and dove into the vermin, tacking him away from Jill. The thing thrashed under the boy but Gray was pounding it's head in several times with his bat. Luke drove the crowbar into a few of the infected that began to surround the boy and then looked to Jill in panic. He didn't know much about the zombies or what was going to happen to Jill. He looked to Gray for advice but the boy was occupied, straddling a zombie who's claws lashed out at him regardless of how many times the PWINK of metal on bone echoed across the streets.
Luke could hear the boy panting and wheezing. He knew he was pushing himself too hard and held a hand out to stop him, only to feel a hand grasp the back of his head. Luke freed himself and turned to see a zombie barring its teeth-- or perhaps it had no lips. Luke had no time to evaluate and slammed the crowbar into the things jaw, watching as it spun away and bounced across the pavement. He swung again and the creature fell with a thud. He rushed for Gray.
Gray swung his arm at the man, "Go suck the poison out of Jill!" He swung the bat down hard, this time satisfied by crack of the zombie's head smashing inward. He stood and whirled just in time to see a wave running toward Luke and Jill. He screamed and ran forward, swinging as hard as he could, knocking them aside. They weren't dead but at least they were distracted for a moment. He turned again to see Luke kneel down beside Jill and take her into his arms. He bent, looking very much like a vampire and began to suck the blood from her open wound.
Luke spat a stream of crimson into the street and bent to suck again. To him this was very much like CPR. Suck, spit, repeat. He kept doing so until the bleeding slowed and it was hard for him to get a whole mouthful. He opened his bag and pulled out a water bottle and took a large portion in his mouth before spitting that in the street. He repeated this a few times before pouring the remainder of the water over Jill's wound. He stood, raising her and rushed for the ladder.
Gray watched as Luke ran and motioned for Marie to follow them back to the roof. He hit one more zombie out of the way before running after them. When he reached the ladder he looked at Luke and leaped upon the rusted rungs. One too many leaps, apparently. The ladder detached from the building and swayed. Gray jumped off backward and watched as the creaking metal mass bent to the left and crashed onto the concrete. Shit-god-dammit-fuck-bitch-ass-face-dammit-fuck.
Luke's eyes widened and he stopped where he was, "God dammit."

When Jill went down, Donovan howled in anguish. “Save her!” he screamed, his little face turning bright red. “Help her, help her!!!” He pounded the side of the building in rage, then he launched himself at Setsuna. “MOM!!!” the little boy hollered, striking out at the man with tears leaking from the corners of his brown eyes.
Just then the ladder tore itself away from the side of the building with an enormous groan. Donny collapsed in a heap, sobbing his heart out.

Gray turned and swung at another zombie before falling to his knees. He was immediately taken over by a violent fit of coughing. This was too much. He needed to lay down. He was getting dizzy again. Things were bleeding again.
Luke's eyes were filled with panic as he turned this way and that trying to find a way to go.

Setsuna roared in anger, drawing a quick pause from the herd of zombies. Sprinting forward he slid to a kneeling position on the very edge of the building. "Donny!" He set the sub-machine gun by his knee. "D, take the gun!" Yelling, he unslung his rifle and lined up the sites at the zombies approching Jill.
BOOM
BOOM
BOOM
BOOM
Blood, guts, brain, and bone blew across the pavement. The zombies were torn about as the .50 BMG rounds torn them into large bits. "Someone get her up on her feet! Get her..." Ah fuck, how could they get her up here? He looked about, rope, chain, anything to help them get back up here. "Just get her somewhere safe!"
BOOM
The rifle clicked empty, but only for a moment, reloading, Setsuna went back to his task of smashing zombies away from the fallen Jill.

Under the cover of Setsuna's fire, Jill scrambled across the ground, her hands slippery on the the gravel. Her next thoughts were not of the gaping hole in her neck, but of the fact that if a Leech smelled the blood like a shark and came a-running they were up the proverbial creek. Dizzy with blood loss, she slumped against the side of the Planetarium. If she just stayed in the shadows until all this was over...
As Jill's vision tunneled up, it did not occur to her that the wound was a Vermin wound. It never crossed her mind that even with Luke's ministrations she ran the risk of turning into one of THEM. Instead, she wanted only to sleep.

Marie screamed as loud shots rang out around her, zombies splintering and exploding left and right.
The fuck sorta gun did he have!
She scrambled over to Jill, slashing a few zombies out of her way as she moved. Crouching over the woman she whimpered, her eyes transfixed on the wound on her neck. Quickly she removed her shirt, her spots bra was soaked with sweat but it covered her up. She took her shirt, winding it about Jill's neck. She pulled the woman close to her, talking to her, trying to keep her conscious. "Jill, stay with me, stay awake. Donovan needs you." She kept pressure on the wound, trying to stem the flow of blood. "You can't sleep here. Stay awake." Her voice was scared.
Marie had really only just met Jill, but she was, in her mind, kinda like her mother.
I am not losing another one, no, never again.
She held Jill close with one arm, keeping pressure on the wound, her other hand held the sword fending off any zombies that dared to get close enough, well the ones that Setsuna wasn't destroying anyway.

In the meantime, Donovan had recovered somewhat, snatched Setsuna's other gun and was dispatching infected with a look of cold fury on his face. His rapid, efficient use of the weapon was almost chilling. When the clip ran out, he threw the gun down.
There were a mere twenty feet between him and Jill. If only he had kept the chain from the skyscraper!
Just then he had an idea. He removed his jacket and his shirt and tied them together. That in itself was a good 6 feet. Tying the empty gun to the bottom of that yielded another two feet. Desperate, he searched the rooftop for something else he could use in his makeshift rope.

Tanjuu, having been too caught up in his actions to notice the things occuring around him, turned to find out what he'd just missed.
Not only was Gray upon the ground in a coughing fit, but it appeared that Jill had taken a bite from a member of the vermin subrace, with Donovan rushing about like a maniac attempting to find some cloth for a makeshift rope ladder.
Beating aside a terribly ugly looking one, a minor brainwave was brought to the surface. These creatures appeared to be wearing a few tattered remains of clothing, and as far as Tanjuu could come to grips with, the virus could not be tranferred by any other means than a bite, so the clothes may just hold...
Quickly downing yet another of the horde, he began tearing strips off the ones that weren't moving anymore. Handing a large pile over to Donovan, he added quickly.
"Here, just don't ask how I got them..."

The strips that Tanjuu handed Donny were pretty thin and flimsy, so he quickly plaited them into a cord of sorts. “Thanks, Tan,” sighed the boy in relief. “You know, if you got back up here, we could just lower you down and use you as a rope!” He blew Tanjuu a kiss, his good humor restored.
Then Donny secured the rope where the ladder used to be. Hopefully the zombies were stupid enough to ignore it while they used it to get his mom to safety.

"Oh sheesh." Tanjuu quickly turned away from the air kissing youth.
That's a bit off, but at least his sense of humor's back up where it should be.
"Well, back to work." He said aloud to no one in particular, as he ran for the ledge that'd held the ladder previously. There was a dopey lookin' creature staring off into space just in front of it. Tanjuu grinned at the opportunity and punted the unfortunate thing clean off the building.
"Fly motherfucker!"

Donny watched the battle rage down below. “Marie!” he shouted, gesturing at his mom and Gray, “Help them up the rope!”
He reloaded his weapon and sprayed bullets into the melee, resulting in an explosion of zombie guts and flying limbs. He barely had time to appreciate his work, however. The zombies were rapidly surrounding Luke on all sides.

Marie, took a fleeting glance up at the rope that Donovan had hung over the edge. Good thinking on the kid's part. Pushing her mind back to the matter at hand, Marie examined the rope. She turned back to Jill, laying down her sword she hoped to all the gods that no zombies snuck up on her. "Donny, cover me!" She tied her shirt a bit tighter, hoping that she wouldn't cut off the circulation to Jill's head.
Letting the older woman lean back against the wall she looped the rope about Jill's waist and up and around her arms. Now, just to pull her up. She would do it herself, but, Marie gave Jill a once over, there was no way her small arms could haul up the mother. It wasn't that Jill was big, it was mostly that Marie was just so small. "Setsuna?! Luke?" She looked about, "Tanjuu! Help me!"
Marie turned back to Jill, holding her head in her hands, Jill didn't seem to be responding, "JILL! Speak to me!" A tear ran down her face, "Talk to me damnit, don't die! You can't die." She felt for a pulse. It was there, or so it seemed. She pressed her forehead to Jills, "Please, please, don't go."

Luke watched, "Donny! I know you want your mom, but that isn't going to work! Leave her down here with me, you focus on keeping her safe for now."
He walked over and pulled Jill back into his arms, resting her back against the wall. He pressed Marie's shirt against the wound for a moment before pulling it away and sucking at it just in case. Taking a breath he looked over to see Gray standing and stumbling toward the wall. He was bleeding-- a lot. Luke watched him his blue eyes darkened. He watched as Gray raised his bat and hit an infected. It stopped, looked around and then lunged at the boy. The hit was hardly a tap. Luke looked down at Jill and then up to the boy, "Sorry Gray," he whispered, "She has someone waiting for her."
Luke didn't want to pick favorites, but he had to make a decision, save a young mother with a son to take care of, or save a selfish punk who had no one to live for.
Gray fell at the hands of the zombie and kicked at it helplessly. His actions were weak and his hits were hardly more than caresses. He was dying. "Fuck..." he managed, trying to stand beneath the weight of the zombie on top of him. It gripped his shoulders and gnashed at him. He could smell its breath. Gray's hands were planted firmly against the thing's chest, his elbows locked-- it couldn't get to him for now, but this wouldn't last.

Hearing the cry from Marie for assistance, Tanjuu looked out over the ledge at the carnage below, discarding his now burnt out cigar. Seeing both Jill and Gray in a state of distress, Tanjuu did the seemingly sensible thing and lept.
Falling in an almost slow motion, Tanjuu brought his hand into the hip holster and clapsed it around the grip, snapping the hammer with his thumb. The second he landed on the ground, the 44 Magnum was drawn out and leveled at the head of the zombie atop Gray. The trigger was squeezed and a loud resounding BOOM sent the bullet searing into the infected cranium, bursting it like a melon. Blowing the smoke off the end of the barrel, he ran up to the fallen teen and hefted him over Tanjuu's left shoulder.
"C'mon dammit, you'll prove your use eventually." He said to the semiconcious Gray, making sure to retrieve the bat as well. Rushing now to the side of Jill and Marie, Tanjuu asked what Marie needed assistance with.
"What do you need Ma'am?"

Setsuna Looked down at the sudden cluster of survivors, understanding Marie's plan. He laid down his rifle and hooked his arms into the make shift rope. He was about top pull when Luke lifted Jill higher into the air. "Well, thanks." He gathered up the slack and pulled, using Marie's sling operation to hoist Jill up onto the roof. Once she was near the edge Setsuna grabbed her and pulled the mother onto the roof. "Donny, keep pressure on the wound.
He quickly untied Jill, and tossed the rope back down the wall, "Come on now, Lets get up here!" The young man snatched up his rifle and incinerated an approaching zombies mid-section.
He turned back quickly, checking to see if D was doing as told. He needed to keep pressure on that wound or she might bleed out.
