“What the fuck are you talking about?” Jill screamed, almost in tears. She didn't know what to do with all this emo shit. “I need you. You saved my life, more than once. I need Tanjuu and Batman and every last big fucking gun that there is because the more people that are around the better the chance my son is going to see puberty. You're smart, Gray, you're probably the smartest fucking person here. What's going to happen if all of a sudden it's every man for himself? You do the math.”
Suddenly, Jill leapt out of the car. “Maybe I've had it, too. Maybe I'm leaving.” She darted toward the side of the road.
It was a risk, but it was a calculated one...

"Fuck! Jill!" He stopped the car and flung his door open and got out as swiftly as he could and raced toward her. For the first time in a long time he was empty handed, his bat was still in the car with Batman. He had completely forgotten about it, for now his focus was completely on Jill.
"What the hell are you doing, get back in the car!" He pointed toward the tail lights gleaming in the darkness, looking at them like two red eyes.

Jill turned to Gray, still screaming as the night wind whipped through her hair. “If you really are leaving, you wouldn't care whether I left too.” She stumbled back toward Gray, and her voice resumed a closer-to-normal tone, although it cracked a little. “I really do need you, Gray, we all do, and I'm prepared to do some seriously stupid shit if that's what it takes to keep you with us.”

"Like what?" He crossed his arms and eyed her with raised brows. What could she do? Then, he thought of a weapon, and a good one if he said so himself.
"Jill! Don't be a fucking dumbass! What about your son?"

“I'm making a point, you jackass,” Jill grumbled, “But now that you mention it, D and I did just fine on our own before we met all you and I bet we could do it again just fine.” She paused. “The point is that I feel responsible for you and what the hell kind of person would I be if I just let you go with out a fight?”
Jill was tired of this: tired of the drama, tired of always having to keep on the lookout and walk on eggshells around everybody. “Whatever,” she said, “Can we just go home now? We can check out the AT&T building when it's light.”

During the course of this action, Foxtrot had sat back in the car with one hand tapping on the dashboard and another on the car door handle, both bat and M4 resting on his lap. There was either a good chance or a really big chance they could be caught out by a member of the horde, and one was all it took to start the clusterfuck of creatures. For a brief second, he thought he could see the bare outline of an infected man standing out in the darkness, but it vanished the moment he blinked, leaving him to worry on whether or not it had really been there in the first place.
For the love of the Goddess, can't we just get moving?

He crossed his arms and jutted out his lower jaw inquisitively. He looked at her like this for a good moment or two and then stood up straight and put his hands in his pockets, casting his face away from hers.
"Why the hell would you feel responsible for me?" His voice was calm and questioning rather than the condescending angry tone he usually used, "I'm an obnoxious fuck up who can take care of himself and doesn't give a great god damn what happens to everyone else."
He smiled, he really did care for Jill and them, but it just made his point more legit if he phrased it that way.

“And I'm a stupid controlling whore who keeps pissing people off because apparently I can't do any goddamn thing right. Yeah, yeah. Keep fishing for compliments, why don't you?” Jill said, rolling her eyes. “Seriously- If there were a fuckup contest I got the blue ribbon. Whatever, call it a misguided sense of compassion if you want. For some strange reason I just don't want to see your scrawny ass get killed.” She shivered a little, noticing for the first time the ominous looming skeleton-like trees overhanging the road. Off in the distance, a raven cawed derisively.
“That's a bad fucking omen,” Jill muttered. Suddenly the air grew oppressive and still. “I'm getting back in the car,” she said, and cast a nervous glance around as she started walking.

He walked forward and took her hand in his gently, hurrying their pace toward the car.
"Let's go back to the planetarium, we can go to the ATT building when it's light out..."
A screech pierced the darkness around them and Gray broke into a sprint. When they reached the car on the driver's side, Gray shoved Jill into the seat, noting that he had left his bat in the car and not noticed until now. He slammed the door harshly and rushed for the back door. He fumbled with the handle for a few seconds, trying desperately to get the door open-- then he was gone.
All that was left was his terrified screams.

The hair on Jill's arms stood on end. One second he was there, holding her hand, the next second...gone. What the hell?
Jill turned to the newcomer. "Batman," she croaked, "We have to go get him." Then she was out of the car and on her feet, flying through the woods like the hounds of hell were on her heels, blindly trying to follow the sound of Gray's pained shrieks.

"That son of a bitch..."
Foxtrot hated it when he was right, something he was supposed to be used to by this stage, but it irritated him to no end. Whipping open the car door and breaking into a dash, he tried to keep pace with the sprinting Jill. Assault rifle bouncing up and down wildly in his right hand, he kept a firm grip on Gray's baseball bat.
"Where the fuck'd he go?"

A little further into the woods, Gray lay on the ground, struggling with a Vermin. It was straddling him and poor Gray was holding both of its wrists and pushing at it with his foot, but it's mouth still came frighteningly close to the boy's neck. He let go of one wrist and grabbed the thing by the neck to keep it at bay and, with one arm free, it began to tear at Gray's chest.
"Nah!" He tried to roll away, but was drug back by his captor and lost his grip. The Vermin took Gray from around the middle and pulled the boy's warm, living body to its own and sunk its teeth into the boy's neck. He screamed out, mostly in horror, rather than pain and gripped the corpse's sides, trying to push it away.

Twigs snapped hard against Jill's face, bringing tears to her eyes. "Gray!" she wailed. He was the closest thing she had to a family, besides Donovan of course, and she wished she were just a little bigger and stronger and smarter so she'd be sure of making it to him in time...
Jill stopped when she got to the clearing. The Beast was on top of Gray, making horrific snarling noises. Panting, Jill pulled out the Beretta and emptied it into the creature. Was it dead? Was Gray dead? She didn't know...all she could do was pray she wasn't too late...

Gray screamed as the creature fell limp and thrust it away from him before rolling onto his knees and crawling away frantically gripping his neck with one arm and using his other arm to try and stop the bleeding from the bullet holes Jill had inflicted upon in.
He fell forward, forehead against the pine needles, writhing in pain, "Jill," he managed to bark through clenched teeth, "Suck out the poison!"
He was panting and his pale green eyes were wide open with absolute panic and terror.

OK, I grew up in Texas...This is what they do for rattlesnakes. I can do this.
Suddenly, bile rose in Jill's throat. She swallowed roughly and then pressed her mouth against Gray's neck. She sucked and spat out a mouthful of blood, gagging on the bitter taste of the poison but trying not to show it.
Rinse, lather, repeat...God, I hope this works. She closed her eyes. What if I get some down my throat? Will I start to change too?
But Jill was a nurse, and there was no place in the nursing world for doubt. So she forced herself to suck again, and she kept going...
