Jill ran lightly down the catwalk and pried the main lens off of the telescope. “Catch!” she yelled jubilantly, and faked tossing it at her companion. “Let's find a light so we can figure out what these scratches say.”

Gray flinched when she feigned throwing the large glass disc at him. He sighed in relief when she didn't release it and instead came running toward him. He smiled at her and slid down the ladder, "Way ahead of you, Jill." His footsteps echoed as he rushed for the doorway to the dome to flick on the bright florescent lights that made this place light up like a Christmas tree. He grabbed the big switch, which was comically huge and looked like it should be in a monster movie. Gray grinned at the thought and grabbed it menacingly.
CERCHAK!
He threw the switch down dramatically he was almost blinded by the brilliance of the lights. He turned to Jill and grinned, hanging his head before twitching back into a standing position with almost professional looking monster acting, "I LEEEEEEEEEIIIIVE!!!" He panted like Egor and rushed to Jill, arms flailing, "What does it say, master?"

Jill looked askance at the glass, peering with first one eye then the other. “I need something to write it down,” she said finally. “I don't want to lose any of it. And there's a lot here.”

Donovan raced into the dome and skidded to a halt, brandishing a machete that was almost as tall as he was. “Gray!” he whined, “You were supposed to come find me!!” He stopped short as he realized that the other two were hunched over something small.
Donny, rather than break their concentration, crept up slowly behind his two elders. “I”M A LEECH!” he shouted abruptly, grabbing his mom's neck and startling the hell out of her in the process. Seizing the moment, he grabbed the lens and ran.
When the little boy was safely away from the other two, he squinted at the piece of glass.
“Alpha...Tango...Tango?” he read. “Mommy, what does that mean?”

"ATT? As in the AT&T building?" Gray shrugged and leaned on his bat next to the boy. He looked over at Jill and cocked his head, jutting out his lower lip in thought, "What do you think, J?"
He didn't know what kind of reaction that little nickname would inspire in her but he prayed to whatever gods there were left in this fucked up world that it wasn't the "oh my god Gray I am going to kick you in the sack" kind.

Jill giggled at the nickname. The last time someone had given her a nickname, it was “Bawls” on account of her having burst out crying when she started her period in the middle of gym class. Luckily those days were over. She felt a sudden sense of camaraderie with Gray.
“It's gotta be,” Jill said. “They wouldn't leave us a message if it were hard to decode."

Gray shrugged, "But what do you think it means? 'Go there and find survivors', 'The king of all zombies is there', 'Zombie quarantine found there' or something like 'Best vaca spot since the epidemic!"
He laughed a little as he stood and swung his bat over his shoulder, "I guess the only way to figure it out is to go up there."

Jill clutched Gray's arm, looking around to make sure Donny was suitably distracted before she spoke next. “I don't know how to say this, but... I don't think we should tell the others. If it turns out to be other survivors, then we can come back for them, but if it's a trap, I don't want to be responsible for everyone's death.”

"So you're saying me and you should go, leave Don with uncle Tanjuu and cousin Speed and then come back for them if everything is all right? Sounds good to me if you're up for it, Jill." Gray's smile faded and he looked to her, "But you got to keep an eye on me, I just healed-- if I get fucked up again I'm blaiming you." He laughed and pointed to his nose. The swelling had gone down and it seemed to be healing well, "This cannot get broken again."

“Please,” scoffed Jill, “I wrote the book on getting fucked up; I seem to remember an incident that involved a rather large Vermin and lots of sharp teeth in my throat.” Then she called for Donovan. “D, you gotta cover for us. You're the sneakiest and by far the best liar.” The little boy acquiesced, much to Jill's surprise. She was expecting more of a fight.
“So, Gray, how to get out of here without getting spotted?”

Gray shrugged, "That's your department. You were the one that was all, 'Lets be together and join up and do crazy shit!' I was all for that whole being alone thing." He laughed and shook his head, "In all seriousness I really have no idea how to get out of here."

“Well...is there a back door? The easiest way usually is the best,” said Jill teasingly. “Do we need anything, besides us and some weapons?” She quashed the feeling of uncertainty that welled up in her stomach. No one would go to that much trouble to set up a trap, right?

"I think we're good to go now... can you cover for us, Donny?" He smiled at the boy and ruffled his hair. He liked the kid- a lot. It was nice to have someone young around. It was refreshing. Gray slung his bat over his shoulder and sauntered toward the back of the room, "Come on, J."

Jill slung her bag over her shoulder. “Donovan, sir, you'd best not be sneaking around by yourself. If those meatheads get into trouble while we're gone, I'll know it's because you weren't keeping a good enough eye on them.” Then she eased open the back door and slid out, pistol in hand just in case.
“Gray,” she called. “Get a move on!”

[[Never fear, plot device is here!]]
The day had been a long one, and Tanjuu was in serious need of a cigar. Unfortunately the sprinkler system within the Planetarium had halted his smoking habits prematurely, so he'd moved out to the back previously.
Leaning up against the wall next to the exit, he inhaled deeply and exhaled a large plume of smoke while reflecting on the past few days. Not only had he left his old apartment behind, but he'd joined up with a regular four man (and two women) band. Himself, the young teen Gray, Ms Gillian with her son Donovan, Mr Burnt the motor vehicle enthusiast and finally the young rapier weilding Marie. Not too shabby...
Suddenly, the door beside him opened as the figure of Jill slunk out and yelled back to Gray behind her. Speaking from the corner of his mouth and around the cigar, he asked her a brief question.
"Whatcha doing Miss Gillian?"
